Purpose:
Our purpose is to provide co-curricular organizations and activities to permit all interested students an opportunity to participate. Every effort is made to avoid membership requirements that would prevent this participation.
School improvement funds are used to provide remedial programs to non-proficient reading students after school. Several teachers also offer tutorial programs on their own for non-proficient students as a way to assist students meeting state standards.
We also offer several enrichment clubs for varying periods of time during the year.
Safety Patrol
AAA School Safety Patrols play an important role in helping young pedestrians learn and fulfill responsibilities regarding traffic safety. Millions of boys and girls have honorably served their classmates since the AAA School Safety Patrol program began in the U.S. in 1920. The program also instills students with a sense of responsibility and leadership, as each day they support classmates within our school.
TV Broadcast Studio
Our studio televises live announcements each morning. Student recognition is featured. Students operate the entire show with supervision from the media specialist. The crew consists of anchors, camera and sound technicians, announcers, video mixer, and assistants.
Music Club
The HBE music club members perform for special school programs, with the MCPS Honor Choir, and at the annual Charlie Dixon Music Festival.
National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS)
This is open to qualifying 4th and 5th grade students based on GPA and demonstrating a standard of excellence. NEHS elevates the school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
